Access Programs

Private jet membership cost, decoded.

The direct answer: $3,000–$15,000 per year in dues for most membership programs — and you still pay for every flight on top. Jet cards start around $150,000 for 25 hours. On-demand charter charges nothing until the wheels move. Which structure wins depends almost entirely on how many hours a year you fly.

Four Ways In

Membership vs card vs charter, side by side.

Structure Upfront / fixed Per flight hour Commitment Best for
On-demand charter $0 $3,200 – $12,500 market rate, shopped per trip None Under ~15 hours a year, flexible schedules
Membership $3,000 – $15,000 / year dues Capped member rates, typically 5–15% below market Annual 15–50 hours a year on predictable corridors
Jet card ~$150,000+ prepaid (25-hour block) Locked rate, usually 15–30% above on-demand Deposit, 12–24 months 25–100 hours a year, hard schedules
Fractional share $500,000+ capital plus monthly fees Occupied hourly, lowest per-hour at scale 3–5 years 50–400 hours a year, one aircraft type

The Breakeven

When dues actually pay for themselves.

Take a realistic mid-range membership at $8,000 a year. On our cheapest category — light jets — a typical member rate cap lands near $2,900/hr against an on-demand floor of $3,200/hr. Fly 20 hours and the flying itself costs $58,000 as a member versus $64,000 on demand: the rate discount alone does not cover the dues. The membership only wins once you add what the dues actually buy — availability guarantees on peak dates, recovery aircraft when a jet breaks, and capped pricing when the market spikes — or once your annual hours climb high enough that the per-hour discount compounds past the fixed cost.

Membership is usually the right tool if you…

  • Fly 15–50 hours a year, mostly on one or two corridors the program covers deeply.
  • Book around holidays and event weekends, when open-market pricing and availability both deteriorate.
  • Value a single app and account manager over shopping three quotes per trip.

Stay on-demand if you…

  • Fly fewer than ~15 hours a year — fixed dues buy you nothing but a renewal notice.
  • Can flex dates by a day or two: empty legs at 30–75% off beat any member rate.
  • Split trips across aircraft sizes — per-category shopping favors the open market; see light, midsize, super-midsize and heavy pricing.
FAQ

Membership questions, answered.

How much does a private jet membership cost?

Most programs charge $3,000–$15,000 per year in dues. On top of dues you still pay per flight — typically at capped hourly rates 5–15% below open-market charter, with perks like priority booking, recovery guarantees and empty-leg alerts.

Is a private jet membership worth it?

Only if you fly roughly 15 or more hours a year on corridors the program serves well. Below that, on-demand charter has zero fixed cost and you can shop every trip; the dues buy convenience and certainty, not a lower hourly number.

What is the difference between a membership and a jet card?

A membership is a subscription: annual dues for access, then pay-as-you-fly at member rates. A jet card is a prepaid block — commonly 25 hours from around $150,000 — with locked rates and guaranteed availability baked into the deposit.

Do memberships include the flights themselves?

No. Dues buy access and rate caps; every flight is still billed per hour, plus the usual fees and taxes. Any program advertising "free flights" against dues is rolling flight credit into a much larger upfront payment — read it as a jet card.

Can I cancel a private jet membership?

Annual programs usually non-renew cleanly at year end; jet cards refund unused balances minus fees, and fractional shares carry multi-year commitments with resale friction. Check the exit terms before the entry price — that is where the real cost hides.
